Student Songwriting Workshop

Songwriting can feel intimidating when students stare at a blank page, so this workshop breaks the ice with quick-fire, time-boxed activities that keep creativity moving. After taking “Songwriting Oath” (pledging to make a not-so-perfect song today), bands form, introduce themselves with a fun ice-breaker, and dive straight into three scaffolded challenges: a Lyric Remix of “Call Me Maybe,” a Top-Line verse written over Soundtrap song-starter loops, and finally building an original Chorus from scratch. Each segment has its own countdown that nudges students past over-thinking and into hands-on making.

You can tailor those countdowns to match your class period or students’ pace. Use the sliders beneath the video to set the length (in minutes : seconds) for each activity.
