Lesson 2.4 · First Position
There are two and a half octaves in first position, ranging from low notes used in bass lines to high notes used in melodies. Low notes: E F G A B C D · Middle notes: E F G A B C D · High notes: E F G A.
Learn to identify every first-position note on the staff, find the locations on the fretboard, then apply rhythms to play melodies. Tap a step number to mark it done.
Combine the FACE under the staff, within the staff, and above the staff to practice identifying all of the low, middle, and high notes.
Find all of the notes in first position by using the chromatic scale and the musical alphabet.
Apply your knowledge of the first-position notes on treble clef and their locations on the fretboard by saying and playing notes on the guitar.
Add rhythm to the notes: identify the pitches, clap or play the rhythm, count and play without time, then count and play with a steady beat.
Listen to example #7, then sing the melody to identify the pitches before locating and playing those notes in first position.
